An OS built on Microsoft Silverlight

I’m posting this quick blogpost now. I just came across this awesome OS that was built on Microsoft Silverlight. And this is what it is all about the all new SolveOS

SilveOS.com is a Silverlight operating system (sometimes called a Web OS or a Webtop or a cloud computer). It brings the convenience and comfort you know from classical desktop applications into your browser. SilveOS.com gives you a familiar work interface that looks the same whether you’re working at your home computer, or remotely from a borrowed or public computer. System hosts all of your data and applications on the web so that they are accessible from Internet browser and not tied down locally to any one. You can launch applications right away without installation and it will be executed in draggable and resizable windows.

Pranav does it again – It’s a Mouseless now

Pranav Mistry, a proud Indian student at MIT, known for his ultimate handsfree device called The Sixth Sense, has now come out with another invention. It’s called the Mouseless. The project aims at making the mouse invisible, and gives all the features of a physical mouse without actually requiring the physical hardware. The picture below explains the whole concept of this product.

This invisible mouse uses IR lasers and IR cameras that are embedded into the computer itself. And this is based on the computer vision algorithm, may be something similar to OpenCV is used in these technologies. And you know what, the mouse would cost just $20 to make. So, obviously, on a larger scale, it would cost much lesser and would be a huge hit in the market. Anyways, have a look at the video which Pranav demonstrated about the invisible mouse.

iOS is not only for iPods: BMW integrates iOS into its newage car

Looks like iOS is not only for iDevices anymore. The all new BMW’s Bimmer, which is set to arrive in 2011 seems to be having an iOS integration into its system, enabling enhanced integration with iPods. May be they will have some kind of higher level of integration with iPhone and iPad. Here’s the official video that shows how “iPod Out” functionality works with BMW.

May be this technology of integrating iOS into automibiles comes to all major cars soon!

YouTube now offers Ultra-High resolutions videos – 4096p

YouTube, the world’s largest video sharing website, now has announced support for Ultra-high resolution videos of resolution upto 4096p. The best part about the 4096p videos is that, these high-resolution videos were screened at IMAX theatres, but its now at your desktop. And remember, playing these types of videos will be a pain unless you have got a killer internet speed and a biig HDTV at home. Anyways, here’s a sample video that has been posted with the 4096p resolution.

The screen resolution will be 4096×3072. I’m think this is a very big step by YouTube to bring UltraHD videos to regular customers. But, with limitations such as the Hardware compatibility, internet speed, etc.

Now access internet via SMS in India

HP, one of the major software players in the world, as we know are active in the research industry. And now, to prove this, the HP researchers in India has come out with an innovative method to access internet via SMS from your mobile. It uses the HP clouds to enable access to the internet via SMS and voice based interaction.

The website reports that the when a website is accessed, it is first compressed and sent to the mobile via SMS according to the business needs. I’m sure this would enable internet access to almost all the mobile users in India. Currently, the SiteOnMobile is by invite only. I’ve requested an invite from them. Would review about the technology once I receive one. Here’s a short video of how it works.

Firefox 4.0 beta 1 released [Updated] [Bugs Found]

This is a biggie! Firefox 4.0 beta 1 has been released. And you know what, it’s packed with a lot of features. Firefox recently released the 3.7 alpha version. But today, the Firefox v4.0 promises to provide us with some new features like a new Tab location, Enhanced HTML 5 support and WebM support. What are you waiting for? Go download the Firefox 4.0 beta 1 now. I just installed the 4.0 now. Will keep you posted if there are some bugs or any new undiscovered features.

And I must admit, It has a very enhanced Cache system and the speed of opening websites are damn good when compared to previous version

One notable feature I saw was the Aero feature integration into firefox for tabs like IE 8 does with Windows 7. I’ve been waiting for this for a really long time!

Also, Im not seeing any plugin incompatibility with the new version of Firefox 4.0. This version of Firefox will definitely create some record.

Bug No.1:

The first bug I saw was that there is no Close, Minimize and Maximize buttons on the browser! .

Update: This bug seems to affect only me! Wondering why this is happening!

How to Download TED Videos and Presentations on Windows?

I’m a very big fan of TED conference, and now TEDxChennai is happening this year in my city. I watch most of the TED videos while travelling and use this simple tool for Windows called TED Grabber.

The TED Grabber is a very handy and easy to use tool that will let you download TED videos. The application is portable and can be used by just opening an exe file. All you gotta do is to just press Ctrl+U after opening the application. This will grab all the new updates from TED’s website. You can infact export the files to the same folder from which the application was opened. I started using this about a week before and thought I would share this app with you.

Remember: The TED Grabber is still in Beta stage.

Was just curious to know how exactly does Google Search works and came across this interesting official video by Google itself. I saw many many videos but was satisfied with the explanation that Matt Cutts gave on how Google search works. Google is probably the Only search engine giant in the world. Flying Car coming to us next year?

Yes! You heard it right! Flying car or The Roadable Aircraft might come to us next year. The car has been designed by a team of engineers trained at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). With the world going wild in innovations and technology, this car might make a big impact the way people travel today. Just have a look at this video and you will know why this will change tomorrow. The retail price of the Transition is expected to be $194,000 and Terrafugia expects the vehicle to be available by the end of 2011. The company has already received 70 orders.

Adobe AIR for Android is now available

The AIR for Android is now available for download from Adobe. Adobe Air coming to Android will definitely make the applications rich on Android. I think this is a very big release for both Android and Adobe.

This version is in Pre-Alpha stage and I do not guarantee any data loss or other issues that would arise from this. Some confirm that this release works fine on Android 2.1 and 2.2.
