Google has opened its first retail store in London with a special section dedicated to Chrome notebooks called the Chrome Zone.
Google has been trying its hands-on with more than just being a Search Engine company. It now does not want only Apple to take all the retail store markets. With this, Google has opened its first retail store in London with about 285 sq. ft. of space inside another computer store.
The store will not last long. It will be open only until Christmas, since the season is considered to be the shopping season. Google is just making a trail to understand how the store will draw interest among the people.
The store has a section called Chrome Zone, where people can try Google’s Chrome OS and also people can get Chromebooks and other accessories like headphones, mic, thumb drives, etc., The Store did not have a grand opening, but is gaining some attention among the customers.
A blogpost by the Google Chrome team states:
So this week in London, we opened our first Chromebook experience inside a retail store. The brand new Chrome Zone is located inside the PC World / Currys superstore on Tottenham Court Road. Spend time with a Chromebook, discover cool web apps
and chat with our Chrome specialists.
Mr. Arvind Desikan, Head of Consumer Marketing, Google UK, says:
It is our first foray into physical retail. This is a new channel for us and it’s still very, very early days. It’s something Google is going to play with and see where it leads.
There are also some speculations that another Chrome Zone is set to open in London very soon. Let’s see how many Chromebooks Google will sell with their new Chrome Zone.
